Description and history of Tesla
Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning established Tesla as Tesla Motors in 2003. Following his investment, Elon Musk was named the company's chair the following year. Both individuals, along with Tarpenning and early recruits Ian Wright and J.B. Straubel, were given permission to use the title "co-founder" via an out-of-court settlement of Eberhard's lawsuit against Musk after Eberhard's removal as CEO.
The firm was established as a manufacturer of electric cars and associated parts, but it has since grown into the production of energy generating and energy storage devices. On June 29, 2010, Tesla released an initial public offering (IPO) to the public.

manufacturers, while Lucid Group Inc. (LCID) and NIO Inc., a Chinese company, are two more recent, rapidly expanding producers of electric vehicles (NIO). Tesla reported a $5.6 billion net profit on $53.8 billion in sales for the fiscal year that concluded on December 31, 2021.
